What Golf Clubs Should I Buy?

A Row of Golf Clubs

Whether you’re a complete beginner or a relative novice, you don’t need to spend a small fortune on the clubs the pro’s use. The perfect clubs for a professional golfer will more than likely be a terrible choice for you. That’s were many budding golfers fall short, they think that by playing with what the pro’s are using that automatically their game will improve, they couldn’t be more wrong!

For all sports including golf, the equipment used is designed for sports people at the top of their game. Professional golfers have clubs that are specifically designed to adapt to the way they play, so even if you do decide to spend $1,000’s on the latest clubs the pro’s are using, you won’t get the benefit that they’re getting, not to mention that professional clubs are a lot harder to play with anyway.

So Which Clubs are Right for You?

Well, that’s the most important thing as we’ve already read, buying clubs that suit you and not the pro’s is key to getting the most out of your game. To find the best clubs for you it’s important to consider the following:

  • What are Your Goals? – Identifying your specific goals in golf will help make shopping for clubs that much simpler. If you only intend to play twice a year whilst visiting your father-in-laws then you don’t need to worry too much about the ins and outs of each set of clubs or invest too much money into them either. However, if you’re planning on takimg up the game and will likely play every week then your interests should be much higher.
  • An Honest Look at Your Dedication – Before you go ahead and spend the big bucks, are you willing to put in the practice or pay for golf lessons? If not then you will be better off buying clubs that cost a lot less.
  • Used? or New? – If you can’t see yourself sticking with the game for long then it could be a good option to go with used golf clubs. Obviously they’re going to be a heck of a lot cheaper than new clubs, which means you can replace them easily later.
  • Budgetise – Before you get carried away looking at all the fancy clubs at your local American Golf store, I suggest you set a budget. Like a grocery budget, if you don’t set one you’ll go over it.
  • Golf Club Shaft – Often a mistake that many new golfers make is not going with the right shaft. You can get stiff shafts which are ideal for fitter stronger guys, and you can get regular or flex shafts which are more suited to the senior/women golfers.
  • Do your Research – Like anything you’re going to invest in, always look at what other people are saying, ask around at your local golf club, on forums, and read reviews.
